Greece seeks second victory

After Wednesday's opening matches, Greece currently sit atop the standings in Pool G, with Sweden chasing in third place, two points behind.

1. 36-year-old opposite Marcus Nilsson, who has been a volleyball superstar for over a decade, has officially declared that this year's qualification process is his last chance to reach a European Championship Final Round with the Swedish national team.

2. Last time the two sides squared off was in Turkey in September 2016 in a friendly match which acted as a build up to the #EuroVolley qualifiers taking place that same autumn. Greece lost the first set 16-25, but then went on to take home the "W" via three straight set wins (25-22, 25-23, 25-16).

Per-Anders Sääf, assistant coach of Team Sweden: "Greece are even better than Azerbaijan, and from what I have seen they play incredibly well together as a team. They are going to be a hard nut to crack, for sure, but maybe it suits us better to be the underdog? We can beat them, there is no doubt about that. And with our home crowd behind us we will do our best to succeed with our mission."
