Athens, Greece, January 3, 2019. Greece wrap up their EuroVolley 2019 qualification obligations this week with both the men's and women's teams already having secured their participation in the final phases of the two competitions later this year - but all concerned pointed out today how important it is that the two sides win all their remaining matches regardless.

Men's National Team assistant coach Pavlos Karamaroudis said at the press conferences held Thursday in Athens ahead of Saturday's match against Sweden: “We are very happy to be already qualified for the finals, but we still want to win in our last two matches and finish undefeated.”

“Since last summer's games the players displayed quality and readiness and this is key to the success of the National Team,” said Karamaroudis, who was standing in for head coach Dimitrios Andreopoulos.

“This is a continuation of our efforts from last summer, but for the first time in many years we will be playing having already secured our qualification,” added team captain Georgios Petreas at the press conference, held in the offices of the Hellenic Volleyball Federation. “We still want to prove that we are good and serious teams and that can only be done in matches where the final result is not crucial.”

Greece's women's team completes the weekend double-header with a matchup against Norway on Sunday, with Spanish head coach Guillermo Naranjo “very excited to be back in Athens.” “Although we have already qualified, we want to finish undefeated and put Greece in a higher position in the rankings and get the best possible seeding ahead of the Drawing of Lots for the final phase,” he added.

“I am very happy to be here with the security of having already qualified, but we promise to give our best in our last remaining matches and we want to have our fans by our side Sunday evening,” said team captain Styliani Christodoulou.
