Greece start preparations for #EuroVolleyW with extended roster of 17 players

Karpenisi, Greece, July 17, 2019. Following eighteen years of drought, the Greek women’s national team returns to the final phase of #EuroVolleyW. Before travelling to Ankara for the Pool A matches of EuroVolley 2019, the team’s journey will begin on July 17 in Karpenisi in the west of Greece, where they will train for the challenges that lay ahead.

Greece has planned a series of friendly games against Hungary and Belarus, another two EuroVolley contestants. The matches with Hungary will take place on 25-27 of July, with the matches with Belarus following on 2-4 August. All of the friendly games will be taking place at Karpenisi. On August 9, Greece will travel to Hungary to compete in the international tournament ‘Savaria Cup’ against the home team, France, Spain and Slovenia. Hungary is also one of the four countries co-hosting the 2019 edition of #EuroVolleyW.

Greece’s head coach Guillermo Naranjo Hernandez has released the list of players that will train in Karpenisi hoping to secure a spot in the second round of #EuroVolleyW.

The CEV EuroVolley 2019 Women will run from August 23 to September 8, and will be taking place for the first time in four countries - Turkey, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia.

Greece features in Pool A in Ankara, together with home team Turkey, reigning world and European champions Serbia, France, Bulgaria, and Finland.

“We did draw some conclusions from our participation in the European Silver League earlier this summer. We start the preparations with 17 athletes and we are ready to work. We are focussed on the European Championship, we made a good schedule till Ankara and I believe that the friendly games against Hungary and Belarus will help us a lot,” said Greece’s head coach Guillermo Naranjo Hernandez.

“Everyone in the team is excited for the upcoming EuroVolley. We are starting the preparations and we are very happy that we are all together again. We will work hard to achieve our goals this summer,” added team captain Styliani Christodoulou.
