Greece secure two wins in friendlies with Slovakia ahead of #EuroVolleyM debut
Athens, Greece, September 9, 2019. The final three friendly games played before travelling to Montpellier provided a boost of energy to Greece’s national team as they locked horns against Slovakia, another #EuroVolleyM contestant.
In the first friendly game on Thursday night at Melina Merkouri sports hall in Rentis, Team Slovakia secured a comprehensive 3-0 victory (25-17, 26-24, 29-27). In the next two games, however, Greece improved their attack and reception and managed to take two victories. The first one came with a 3-1 score (27-25, 23-25, 25-23, 28-26) and on Sunday night, the hosts celebrated a 3-2 (21-25, 25-14, 18-25, 25-20, 17-15) success.
On Tuesday morning, the official media day of the men’s national team will be taking place in Athens and in the afternoon, the team will fly out to France to play at EuroVolley for the first time since 2009 in a group including the hosts as well as the national teams of Italy, Bulgaria, Portugal and Romania. They will be hoping to emulate their women’s team, who recently made it to the 8th Finals in their first EuroVolley appearance since 2001.
