Greece started with a victory, 3-0 against Luxembourg
1. Greece fought hard to hold off Luxembourg for 3-0 win to open 2019 European Championship qualification campaign.
2. Luxembourg led Greece in the second by as much as 15-10, but the hosts rallied to catch up at 17-17 and went on take the set.
3. Nikos Zoupani led the scoring for Greece with 16 points; Kamil Rychlicki was best scorer of Luxembourg with 14.
4. Greece next travel to Sweden, before returning to Alexandroupolis to host Azerbaijan.
Dimitris Andreopoulos, head coach of Greece: "We took a clear victory, which we wanted. We showed good elements in defence and attack, but we still need to improve our blocking."
Dieter Scholl, head coach of Luxembourg: "I think we were quite well prepared for the match, but our service was not as good as we expected and the reception of the Greek team was very, very good. The setter played an excellent game."
